Hello humans! Waaaaaay back when I reviewed the first release in the DC Icons Series Wonder Woman: Warbringer written by (one of my all-time favourite authors) Leigh Bardugo. ![]() 6/11/2023 0 Comments The sea around us book![]() ![]() It was my friend's turn to be the balloon today and I the kiteflyer, whose hand reached up and caught hers. The dives have been mute, and yet so full of dialogue, there's been so much laughter under the water, reassurance, affirmations, touch, eye contact that felt more like conversations, physical slapstick, support, and most of all, us all holding onto each other and not letting anyone twist off course, be lifted by the current, or float up too far. ![]() Sometimes I feel we adults can talk a little too much with an empty space between us and no connection or understanding. One of the things I hadn't thought about before learning to dive was holding hands. I knelt in front of a Pink Smith Damselfish: a dive slate on my wrist, a flounder beside my knee, wet book and stubby pencil in my hand. ![]() Today, I got to kneel in loosely blown sand on the oceanfloor and write. ![]() 6/11/2023 0 Comments The dead james joyce epiphany![]() In a letter to the published Grant Richards, Joyce called ‘Two Gallants’ one of the most important stories in Dubliners. But as so often, this brief summary of a Dubliners story doesn’t capture the suggestiveness of Joyce’s writing, or his attention to everyday detail. The story ends with the arrival of a new day, at ‘daybreak’. ![]() The protagonist, Jimmy Doyle, and his European friends walk around Dublin, go to dinner at a hotel, talk about politics and music among other things, and then catch the train to the harbour where they go to a yacht and proceed to get drunk dancing and playing cards. I think KEW must have signed quite a few of these on his trips to the U.K. There's also Unthreatened by The Morning Light (Author's Choice Monthly #2) that collects together the stories "Endless Night", "Neither Brute Nor Human" and "The River of Night's Dreaming". But that's the collection to get if you possibly can. I don't own a copy of In A Lonely Place (it's probably still rare and super expensive) and had to cobble together all the stories from it via various anthology appearances. Why Not You and I (title taken from BOC's Don't Fear The Reaper) can be found cheaply it's a good collection but In A Lonely Place is the one you want. In a Lonely Place contains several of his best tales. Even the used paperbacks are a bit pricy, I'm afraid, but Wagner at his best was a fine writer and worth it. ![]() ![]() ![]() The attempt to affect the personalities and to control the behavior of individuals towards ends considered unscientific or of doubtful value in a society at a particular time.A process which deliberately attempts through persuasion-techniques to secure from the propagandee, before he can deliberate freely, the responses desired by the propagandist (Henderson, 1943, p. ![]() An expression of opinion or action by individuals or groups deliberately designed to influence opinions or actions of other individuals or groups with reference to predetermined ends.A consistent, enduring effort to create or shape events to influence the relations of the public to an enterprise, idea or group.Propaganda is the management of collective attitudes by the manipulation of significant symbols. ![]() 6/10/2023 0 Comments Warrior cats audio book![]() Normally the foreshadowing in this series as very heavyhanded, and understandably so since the books were written for a younger audience. ![]() The hint that Mothwing might have planted her own sign to become a medicine cat was wonderfully done. ![]() It felt somewhat like this book was an "in between" book, not as filled with action and adventure as a lot of the others were, but instead focusing more on telling a lot of what happens when things don't involve fighting.I was intruiged at numerous places in this book.
